Trump Calls AI Doomsday Warnings ‘Hoax’ As Tech Stocks Tumble (Worthy News Focus)

WASHINGTON/DOONBEG (Worthy News) – U.S. President Donald J. Trump has rejected calls to slow down the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI), calling doomsday predictions a “hoax” despite warnings from technology executives and researchers that the rapidly advancing systems could eventually threaten humanity.

Trump intensified his criticism Monday after executives at leading AI companies called for greater caution, helping trigger a selloff in technology and semiconductor shares around the world.

“There is a SICK conspiracy going on against AI and Data Centers, and the only one that is happy about it is China,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

The president described warnings about AI “taking over the World” and “destroying Humanity” as a “HOAX,” resisting restrictions he fears could undermine America’s technological advantage over China.

Speaking to reporters Sunday at his golf resort in Doonbeg, Ireland, Trump acknowledged that safeguards could be considered but stressed that the United States must maintain its lead.

AMERICA VERSUS CHINA

“We’re leading China in AI. We’re the most sophisticated country in the world, and frankly I want to keep it that way because whoever wins AI wins,” Trump told reporters.

His intervention came amid an extraordinary public debate involving executives developing some of the world’s most advanced AI systems.

Anthropic Chief Executive Dario Amodei has called for slowing frontier AI development while stronger safeguards are established, including independent evaluations of advanced models.

OpenAI Chief Executive Sam Altman has also backed greater coordination over the pace of development, while billionaire Elon Musk has supported calls for increased caution.

Their warnings rattled investors betting that hundreds of billions of dollars will continue flowing into AI chips, data centers and related infrastructure.

CHIP SHARES PLUNGE

Wall Street ended lower Monday, with Nvidia falling more than 3 percent while Micron, Broadcom and AMD suffered larger declines as semiconductor shares bore the brunt of the selloff.

AI-linked shares also came under pressure internationally as investors questioned whether a slowdown could undermine the vast infrastructure expansion accompanying the boom.

Rising bond yields, oil prices and expectations of higher U.S. interest rates also weighed on markets, meaning AI concerns were not the only factor behind the declines.

“What’s good for humanity may not be good for the AI bull market,” said Nic Puckrin, cross-asset analyst and founder of Coin Bureau in Dubai.

“The AI trade may not end with a dotcom-style crash,” Puckrin added. “It may simply be a gradual slowing down of the AI arms race that’s good for humanity, but bad for short-term valuations.”

HUMAN EXTINCTION FEARS

The turmoil reflects a deeper question confronting governments and technology companies: whether advanced AI can remain under human control.

Among those sounding the strongest alarm is Nate Soares, president of the Machine Intelligence Research Institute (MIRI), who recently appeared on The Tucker Carlson Show to warn about what he views as the potentially catastrophic consequences of developing superhuman AI.

“If you race to make machines that are much smarter than any human” without really knowing what you are doing, Soares told Carlson, “the most likely outcome is just that the machines get loose and do their own thing and that humanity dies as a side effect.”

He compared the potential consequences to humanity driving other species toward extinction—not necessarily out of hostility, but as a consequence of pursuing its own objectives.

Soares is co-author with researcher Eliezer Yudkowsky of the 2025 book If Anyone Builds It, Everyone Dies: Why Superhuman AI Would Kill Us All, which argues that the race toward superintelligence could end catastrophically unless nations coordinate to halt uncontrolled development.

CHRISTIAN VIEW OF FUTURE

However, there is no scientific consensus that artificial intelligence will destroy humanity, and researchers remain deeply divided over the likelihood and possible timing of such a scenario.

Christian theologians note that the Bible presents humanity’s ultimate future differently, teaching that Jesus Christ will return and establish His Kingdom, regardless of technological developments or threats facing the world.

More immediate concerns include the potential misuse of AI for cyberattacks, biological weapons, fraud and other crimes, as well as systems behaving in ways their creators did not anticipate.

Tests involving advanced models have added urgency to questions over whether developers sufficiently understand their behavior before releasing more powerful versions.

The controversy has created an unusual divide in Washington between demands for tighter safeguards and concerns that regulation could hand China an advantage.

‘GOLDEN GOOSE’

Trump has placed himself firmly on the side of rapid American development, arguing that existing laws provide sufficient powers to police the industry.

“The only control or ‘guardrails’ that AI needs is a STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT, and the U.S.A. has that, in spades!” Trump wrote Monday.

“We already have tremendous CRIMINAL and REGULATORY power over these companies!” he added.

His administration has also clashed with Anthropic over the use of AI in military applications, adding to tensions with one of the companies now prominently warning about the technology’s dangers.

Yet those warnings are particularly striking because they increasingly come from people involved in building AI rather than traditional critics of the industry.

AI RACE CONTINUES

Supporters of rapid development say AI could transform medicine, scientific research and productivity while strengthening America’s position against geopolitical rivals.

Those urging caution counter that humanity may have only a limited opportunity to establish safeguards before the technology becomes significantly more capable.

The dispute is also moving into Congress, where lawmakers are considering legislation requiring developers to take reasonable precautions against their systems causing harm.

Vice President JD Vance has expressed skepticism about AI companies asking Washington for regulation, saying he felt “a little bit weird” about frontier AI companies approaching the government and asking to be regulated.

For investors, the dispute has introduced a new uncertainty into one of the largest technology booms in history: whether the AI race will continue at its current pace—or whether efforts to slow it could trigger a deeper global market downturn.
