(Worthy News) – Violent crime victimization in the United States fell sharply in 2025, declining 25% from the previous year, according to preliminary Justice Department figures released Monday, marking a significant improvement in public safety during President Donald Trump’s first full year back in office.
The Justice Department’s National Crime Victimization Survey found that serious violent crime, including rape, sexual assault, robbery, and aggravated assault, dropped from 9.9 incidents per 1,000 Americans aged 12 and older in 2024 to 7.4 in 2025.
Aggravated assaults declined 31%, while robbery fell approximately 27%. Property crime victimization also decreased 19%, with motor vehicle theft dropping roughly 30% and burglary or trespassing falling 25%.
The findings reinforce separate FBI statistics showing violent crime reported to law enforcement declined 9.3% nationwide in 2025, while murders and non-negligent manslaughter fell 18.1%.
Associate Attorney General Stanley Woodward credited the administration’s law-and-order agenda, declaring that the findings demonstrate President Trump’s commitment to restoring public safety.
The Justice Department characterized the decline as historic, although the victimization survey underwent a methodological redesign in 2025, warranting caution when comparing results with previous years.
Unlike FBI statistics, which measure crimes reported to law enforcement, the Justice Department survey also captures crimes that victims never reported to police.
