(Worthy News) – The U.S. military has developed new strike plans against Iran that could include deploying the most powerful non-nuclear bomb in America’s arsenal against Iranian nuclear facilities and energy infrastructure, according to reports Thursday.
The plans reportedly include using the 21,000-pound GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast bomb, commonly known as the “Mother of All Bombs” (MOAB), should President Donald Trump authorize renewed military operations against Tehran.
According to Newsmax, Reuters, and The Jerusalem Post, potential targets include Iran’s heavily fortified Pickaxe Mountain nuclear complex, where Western intelligence officials believe sensitive components of Tehran’s nuclear program may be concealed.
The massive weapon, first used against Islamic State terrorists in Afghanistan in 2017, is designed to devastate large surface areas. However, military officials have questioned whether it could effectively destroy Iran’s deeply buried nuclear installations, since the MOAB lacks the penetrating capabilities of specialized bunker-buster bombs.
The Pentagon’s contingency planning reportedly includes potential strikes before or after November’s midterm elections, although Trump has publicly indicated he does not intend to launch new military operations before voters head to the polls.
The White House has maintained that Trump is keeping military options available to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
The reported preparations come amid growing uncertainty over Tehran’s nuclear ambitions and the possibility of another major American military operation. However, the existence of contingency plans does not mean a strike has been authorized.
