U.S. and Israel Move Closer to Possible Iran Strikes as Third Aircraft Carrier Heads to Middle East

by Emmitt Barry, Worthy News Washington D.C. Bureau Chief

(Worthy News) – Tensions between the United States, Israel, and Iran are rapidly intensifying as Washington deploys a third aircraft carrier toward the Middle East, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth makes an unannounced visit to Israel, and new reports suggest President Donald Trump has come close to authorizing another round of military strikes against the Islamic Republic.

The convergence of military deployments, high-level consultations, and increasingly forceful warnings from Washington and Jerusalem has raised concerns that the fragile pause in fighting with Iran could soon collapse.

U.S. Military Buildup Signals Growing Threat of Renewed War

The USS Theodore Roosevelt carrier strike group is heading toward the Middle East, joining an expanding American military presence that already includes the USS George Washington and USS George H.W. Bush carrier groups operating in the region.

The deployment, accompanied by additional Marine forces and amphibious warships, gives Trump significantly greater military capabilities should he authorize renewed strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities, ballistic missile installations, or other strategic targets.

The buildup comes as Iran continues disrupting shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital passageway for roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil supplies. Oil prices have climbed sharply since the conflict began in February, adding economic pressure on Washington to resolve the crisis.

Hegseth Holds Unannounced Meeting With Netanyahu

Adding to speculation about possible military action, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth traveled to Israel on Monday for an unannounced meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at Ovda Air Base in southern Israel.

The installation hosts American fighter aircraft and aerial refueling tankers, critical assets for conducting extended military operations against Iran.

The meeting, first reported by Axios and subsequently confirmed by Reuters, came amid discussions between Washington and Jerusalem about potentially resuming large-scale combat operations.

The timing is particularly significant. Israel faces national elections on October 27, while Americans head to the polls for congressional midterm elections on November 3.

Trump Weighs Military Options as Iran Resists Agreement

According to The Jerusalem Post, Trump and Netanyahu have issued increasingly direct warnings to Tehran, even as both leaders publicly express reluctance to restart the war before their respective elections.

Speaking about the possibility of another Iranian attack, Netanyahu warned, “If Iran makes a mistake and tries to attack us, it will simply make the mistake of its life.”

Trump has been equally forceful, recently telling reporters, “Wait til you see what we do to Iran.”

Meanwhile, Reuters reported Tuesday that senior Iranian officials believe Washington may resort to renewed military action to break the diplomatic stalemate. Iranian officials reportedly see prolonging negotiations as a means of denying Trump a political victory ahead of the midterms.

Tehran continues to demand significant American concessions, including relief from economic restrictions and the naval blockade, while Washington seeks assurances that Iran cannot rebuild the military and nuclear capabilities damaged during earlier U.S.-Israeli operations.

Region Faces Another Dangerous Turning Point

The confrontation extends well beyond Iran’s borders. Iranian-backed Houthi forces have intensified attacks against Saudi Arabia, threatening to widen the conflict while adding pressure to already strained regional energy markets.

Military analysts warn that another round of American and Israeli strikes could trigger Iranian retaliation against Israel, U.S. installations, and Gulf energy infrastructure, potentially drawing the region into a prolonged confrontation.
