(Worthy News) – President Donald Trump warned Friday that the United States may soon strike Iran’s Pickaxe Mountain, a deeply fortified underground site near the Natanz uranium enrichment complex, as tensions over Tehran’s nuclear program continue to sharpen.
“We may hit Pickaxe Mountain very soon,” Trump said, according to Reuters. The site, located near Iran’s heavily damaged Natanz facility, is believed to contain two deeply buried tunnel complexes and has drawn growing concern from U.S. and Israeli officials because of its potential role in shielding sensitive nuclear work from future attacks.
Pickaxe Mountain, also known as Kuh-e Kolang Gaz La, sits just south of Natanz and has long been a central flashpoint in the West’s standoff with Iran over uranium enrichment. The Associated Press reported that the U.N. nuclear watchdog has not gained access to the site, leaving uncertainty over what Iran has placed inside the mountain. Experts have warned the facility could be deep enough to challenge even the most powerful conventional bunker-busting weapons in America’s arsenal.
The Institute for Science and International Security said in July that satellite imagery suggested the facility was not yet operational but that construction was continuing. The institute assessed that the underground space could eventually be used for centrifuge assembly, enrichment, or other nuclear-related activity if Iran seeks to rebuild parts of its program under stronger protection.
Trump’s latest remark signals that Washington may be preparing to draw a harder line around Iran’s underground nuclear infrastructure. For years, Tehran has insisted its nuclear program is peaceful, while the United States, Israel, and other Western governments have warned that Iran’s enrichment advances and hardened facilities could shorten the path toward a nuclear weapon.
For Israel and the wider Middle East, the issue is not merely another diplomatic dispute. It is a question of whether the world will allow the Iranian regime to bury its nuclear ambitions beneath a mountain and wait out the West. Trump’s warning suggests that, at least for now, Washington is signaling that even Iran’s deepest tunnels may not be beyond reach.
