WASHINGTON (Worthy News) – U.S. President Donald J. Trump announced Sunday the creation of a new federal “Super Intelligence Force” (SIF) for coordinating his administration’s efforts to keep the United States at the forefront of rapidly developing artificial intelligence (AI) amid broader concerns among critics that the technology could threaten humanity if not carefully handled.
The new force, known as SIF, will coordinate federal engagement with consumers, public-interest and religious groups, critical infrastructure providers and technology companies, Trump said in a message on his Truth Social platform.
“The Super Intelligence Force is tasked with coordinating the effort of the Federal Government to ensure that America continues to lead the World in Super Intelligence,” Trump stressed.
Trump said the technology could prove “bigger than the Industrial Revolution, and the Internet” and pledged that the initiative would “protect the interests, and improve the lives, of all Americans.”
Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton will lead the force and serve as the administration’s AI czar, placing the nation’s top intelligence official at the center of Washington’s efforts to address the rapidly advancing technology.
AI FORCE GETS 120 DAYS
The force has 120 days to produce a report examining the risks and opportunities posed by AI and what role the federal government should play.
Other leaders include Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson, Pentagon Chief Technology Officer Emil Michael and Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor. The group will report directly to Trump and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.
The task force is also expected to examine existing laws and possible congressional action, as well as how breaches, hacks, model jailbreaks and other AI-related incidents are reported to the federal government.
Its creation follows a White House gathering involving executives from some of America’s largest technology companies, including OpenAI, Anthropic and Nvidia.
Trump has favored limited regulation, arguing that excessive government restrictions could undermine America’s ability to compete with China in the race to develop increasingly sophisticated AI.
AI SAFETY FEARS GROW
Yet the rapid development of increasingly capable AI systems has also prompted stark warnings from researchers about potential dangers ranging from cyberattacks and job losses to autonomous weapons and, in extreme scenarios, threats to humanity itself.
Among those sounding the alarm is AI safety researcher Nate Soares, president of the Machine Intelligence Research Institute and co-author of the recently published book If Anyone Builds It, Everyone Dies.
In a recent interview with conservative commentator Tucker Carlson, Soares warned about racing to create machines “much smarter than any human” without fully understanding how to control them.
He argued that the most likely outcome would be that such machines eventually “get loose and do their own thing,” and humanity could die as a consequence.
Soares and other AI safety advocates have called for far stronger safeguards, while supporters of rapid development warn that slowing America’s progress could allow China or other competitors to take the lead.
AI OPPORTUNITY AND THREAT
Clayton has acknowledged both sides of the debate, describing AI during his confirmation process as “not only an opportunity but a threat.”
“When something is both an opportunity and a threat, you better get your arms around it,” he stressed.
Trump’s announcement underscores the growing strategic importance Washington attaches to AI as the United States and China compete for technological leadership.
It comes as governments worldwide struggle with how to encourage innovation without losing control over increasingly powerful systems.
