In his UN address, the president connected Tehran’s support for Hamas to the massacre in Israel, defended military action against Iran and praised his administration’s Gaza peace framework

(Worthy News) – President Donald Trump used his address to the 81st United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday to deliver a sweeping indictment of Iran, describing the Islamic Republic as the central force behind decades of terrorism and instability across the Middle East.

Trump tied that record directly to Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attack on Israel. He also praised the return of the remaining hostages and the international framework intended to disarm Hamas, stabilize Gaza and prevent another war.

Trump Confronts Iran’s Record

“There is no better example of a danger that was allowed to gather strength” than Iran, Trump told assembled world leaders, calling the Islamic Republic the “number one sponsor of terror.”The United States has formally designated Iran a state sponsor of terrorism since 1984. American officials have repeatedly accused Tehran of supporting Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah and other armed organizations operating throughout the Middle East.

“For 51 years, the fanatical Iranian regime has ruled by bloodshed and mass murder,” Trump said, accusing Tehran of spreading “death and carnage and chaos” across the region.

“They were the bully of the Middle East,” he declared, “but they are the bully no more.”

The address presented Iran not merely as Israel’s adversary, but as the organizing power behind a network capable of striking civilians, disrupting international shipping and threatening American personnel and allied nations.

Remembering the Horrors of October 7

Trump then turned to the Hamas-led invasion of southern Israel.

“In two weeks, we will mark the third anniversary of the October 7 attack in Israel,” he said.

The president described how terrorists funded by Iran “tortured, mutilated, and killed” approximately 1,200 people. He emphasized that the victims included Americans and children.

Trump also recalled the Iranian leadership’s reaction to the massacre, telling the General Assembly that Iran’s supreme leader celebrated the attack and called it “a service to humanity.”

That response, Trump argued, revealed what could happen if the regime were ever protected by a nuclear arsenal.

“Just imagine such a vile regime were ever empowered to carry out large-scale terror attacks from behind a nuclear shield,” he said.

The warning placed Israel’s experience on October 7 at the center of Trump’s case against Iran. Hamas carried out the assault, but the president portrayed Tehran’s financing, weapons and political support as part of the machinery that made such terrorism possible.

A Nuclear Iran Remains the Red Line

Trump repeated his longstanding position that Iran must never acquire a nuclear weapon.

“I have been unwavering,” he said. “I will never allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon.”

According to Trump, his administration initially offered Iran economic cooperation in exchange for ending its nuclear program. Tehran refused.

“They absolutely refused,” he said. “That was a big mistake.”

Trump defended subsequent American military action against Iranian nuclear infrastructure and said Iran had continued developing missiles and drones capable of threatening American forces, Israel and parts of Europe.

His speech also contained a stark warning. Trump said he faced a choice between reaching an agreement that would allow Iran to rebuild its economy or moving to “annihilate the Islamic Republic” as a military threat.

At the same time, he predicted that Tehran might still return to negotiations. The address therefore combined an offer of diplomacy with the threat of considerably greater force.

Trump Says Iran Is “Weak and Desperate”

Trump rejected the view that Iran’s continued aggression demonstrates strength.

“The terrorist regime is behaving badly,” he said, “not because they are strong and confident, but because they are weak and desperate.”

He called upon other nations to enforce Iran’s economic isolation until Tehran ends attacks on commercial shipping, abandons its nuclear ambitions and stops supporting terrorism.

“If we stand united,” Trump said, “we will soon see a world free of the last 51-year menace of Iranian terror.”

Most members of the Iranian delegation left the General Assembly chamber during Trump’s denunciation of their government, the Associated Press reported.

From the Hostage Tunnels to a Gaza Peace Plan

Trump also used the speech to contrast the current situation in Gaza with conditions one year earlier.

“The war in Gaza was still raging brutally,” he recalled. “The hostages were still deep in Hamas tunnels, and there was no end in sight.”

Trump said diplomatic work conducted around the previous General Assembly gathering produced the breakthrough that changed the war’s direction.

“A few weeks later, we ended the war in Gaza,” he said, crediting the agreement with saving thousands of lives.

“We also brought home all remaining hostages, both living and dead,” Trump added. “Every single one of them.”

The president thanked the Security Council for endorsing his 20-point Gaza peace plan and approving the Board of Peace. He also recognized countries that have committed funding, police, troops, or training to Gaza’s stabilization and reconstruction.

The White House has presented the plan, the return of the living hostages and the establishment of the Board of Peace as major foreign-policy achievements.

The Difficult Work of Enforcement

Trump’s declaration of success does not mean every provision of the Gaza framework has been completed.

The implementation agreement calls for Hamas and other armed factions to transfer civilian and security authority to a transitional Palestinian administration. It also requires the dismantling of heavy weapons, tunnels, military-production sites and weapons depots.

Israel is expected to withdraw its forces in phases as Hamas’s disarmament and the transfer of governing authority are verified.

The sequence remains critical. Israeli officials maintain that a full withdrawal cannot safely occur while Hamas retains its weapons. Officials overseeing the American plan have also warned that continued military operations could obstruct the transfer to civilian government.

The dispute underscores the challenge behind Trump’s achievement: A ceasefire can halt a war, but only verifiable disarmament and responsible government can prevent the next one.

October 7 Defines the Stakes

Trump’s UN address brought the argument back to a single moral and strategic reality: Any plan for Gaza must account for what happened on October 7.

Reconstruction without demilitarization could permit Hamas to rebuild beneath Gaza’s cities. An Israeli withdrawal without enforceable security guarantees could leave border communities exposed to another massacre. Continued warfare, meanwhile, could deepen Gaza’s destruction and undermine the transition Trump says his administration has secured.

The president’s message was that Iran connects these dangers. Tehran’s support for Hamas helped turn Gaza into a base for terror, while its nuclear and missile programs threaten Israel and the wider region.

Whether Trump’s plan produces a durable peace will depend on what follows the declarations: the verified disarmament of Hamas, the protection of Israeli civilians, accountable government in Gaza, and sustained international pressure on Iran to abandon terrorism and nuclear escalation.
