(Worthy News) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has directed the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Mossad, and other security agencies to pursue the overthrow of Iran’s Islamic regime, declaring that removing Tehran’s leadership is the only lasting solution to the nuclear threat facing Israel.
Speaking Wednesday at an IDF officers’ graduation ceremony, Netanyahu warned that Iran’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, was continuing his father’s pursuit of nuclear weapons despite devastating American and Israeli military operations earlier this year.
“The Iranian regime still has not learned its lesson,” Netanyahu declared, accusing Tehran of renewing efforts to develop a nuclear bomb.
“There is only one way to remove this threat once and for all: overthrow the regime in Iran,” Netanyahu said, according to Reuters.
The announcement comes amid mounting speculation about renewed Israeli military operations against Iran and reports of discussions between Washington and Jerusalem over the timing of potential strikes.
According to Voice of America, Netanyahu also revealed that he had instructed Israel’s military intelligence establishment to pursue regime change, arguing that Israel’s long-term survival depends on eliminating the threat posed by Tehran’s leadership.
The Israeli leader recently told reporters that his government has developed a comprehensive strategy to bring down the Iranian regime, while emphasizing that Israel remains prepared to act independently if necessary.
Washington and Jerusalem Weigh Next Steps
The escalating rhetoric follows reports that U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth made an unannounced visit to Israel amid discussions about further military action against Iran.
President Donald Trump has publicly supported Netanyahu but has reportedly opposed launching another major military operation before America’s November 3 midterm elections.
Reuters reported that Israel’s strategic confrontation with Iran is unlikely to change substantially regardless of the outcome of Israel’s October 27 elections, reflecting a broader consensus within the country’s security establishment that Tehran remains its principal regional adversary.
Netanyahu’s latest directive signals a significant escalation in Israel’s declared objectives, moving beyond destroying Iran’s nuclear infrastructure toward dismantling the Islamic leadership responsible for decades of hostility toward the Jewish state.
The Israeli prime minister did not provide a timetable or operational details for achieving that objective.
