GAZA STRIP (Worthy News) – The Israel Defense Forces announced Thursday that it killed a Hamas Nukhba Force terrorist who invaded Israel during the October 7, 2023, massacre and took part in the killing of a senior Israeli military commander.
The IDF identified the terrorist as Ismail Ibrahim Darwish Qandil, saying he was killed Monday in an airstrike in Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip. According to the military, Qandil crossed into Israel during the Hamas-led assault and participated in the killing of Col. Jonathan Steinberg, commander of the IDF’s Nahal Brigade, near Kerem Shalom.
Steinberg, 42, was among the most senior Israeli officers killed on October 7. He was traveling toward fighting near the Gaza border to join troops under his command when he encountered Hamas terrorists and was killed. He left behind his wife and six children.
The IDF said Qandil had recently been working to restore Hamas’ military capabilities while advancing attacks against Israeli troops and civilians, describing those activities as a systematic violation of the ceasefire. The military said the strike was carried out to eliminate the immediate threat he posed.
