CDC Data Shows Sharp Drop in Girls Identifying as Bisexual, Especially Among Freshmen

by Emmitt Barry, Worthy News Washington D.C. Bureau Chief

(Worthy News) – Newly released federal survey data show a significant decline in the percentage of American high school girls identifying as lesbian, gay, or bisexual, with the most dramatic shift occurring among younger students.

The data come from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s 2025 National Youth Risk Behavior Survey, part of a nationally representative survey conducted every two years among U.S. high school students. The CDC added its 2025 dataset and documentation to its website this month.

One of the most striking changes involves ninth-grade girls identifying as bisexual. According to an analysis of the CDC data, 26% of ninth-grade girls identified as bisexual in 2021, compared with just 13% in 2025 — a decline of roughly half.

The broader trend also points downward. The analysis found that 30% of ninth-grade girls identified as lesbian, gay, or bisexual in 2021, falling to 17% in 2025. Across female high school students overall, LGB identification reportedly declined from 27% in 2023 to 22% in 2025.

The shift is noteworthy because it follows years of rapid increases. CDC’s 2021 national data showed that 20% of female high school students identified as bisexual, while another 3.7% identified as lesbian.

From a Biblical perspective, human identity begins with the created order established by God. Genesis 1:27 declares, “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” Scripture presents male and female not as human inventions or shifting social categories, but as part of God’s intentional design from creation. Both bear equally the image of God, possessing equal dignity and worth, while their distinction is woven into the Creator’s purpose for humanity. Jesus later reaffirmed this creation pattern, pointing back to Genesis when He said, “He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female’” (Matthew 19:4).
