(Worthy News) – British Prime Minister Andy Burnham said Monday that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) almost certainly directed a suspected terrorist plot targeting RAF Fairford, a British military installation used by American bombers conducting strikes against Iran.
Speaking before Parliament, Burnham said British intelligence assessed that the September 27 incident was highly likely coordinated from Tehran and directed by the IRGC.
Seven men, including a dual British-Iranian citizen, were arrested following suspicious activity involving three vans near the Gloucestershire airbase. Police discovered gasoline inside the vehicles but no explosives. All seven suspects have since been released on bail without charges, although the investigation remains ongoing.
The suspected plot prompted the Pentagon to withdraw 12 American B-1 bombers from RAF Fairford, a strategic installation supporting U.S. military operations against Iran.
Britain subsequently summoned Iran’s ambassador and imposed sanctions on two Iranian operatives linked to espionage and hostile activities abroad.
Meanwhile, the United States, Britain, and 27 other nations issued a joint statement condemning Iran’s alleged use of terrorist networks, sabotage, cyberattacks, and covert operations against Western interests.
The statement also highlighted recent attacks targeting Jewish communities, Iranian journalists, and American interests across Europe, underscoring growing concerns that Tehran is expanding its confrontation with the West beyond the Middle East.
Iran has denied involvement in the suspected airbase plot.
