Anti-Jewish Hate Crimes Surge 53% in New York City

Jewish New Yorkers were targeted in 70% of the city’s confirmed hate crimes in July

by Emmitt Barry, Worthy News Washington D.C. Bureau Chief

(Worthy News) – Anti-Jewish hate crimes in New York City rose 53.3% in July compared with the same month last year, according to NYPD figures reported by JNS.

Jewish victims and institutions accounted for 70% of all confirmed hate crimes in the city during the month—an alarming disparity for a community representing roughly 10% of New York City’s population.

The numbers continue a troubling pattern. During the first half of 2026, the NYPD confirmed 178 anti-Jewish hate crimes, accounting for 55.3% of all confirmed hate crimes citywide.

New Yorkers should not grow accustomed to such figures. Religious liberty and public safety depend upon the government enforcing the law without fear or favor. Jewish families must be free to worship, attend school, and walk their neighborhoods without becoming targets because of their faith.

Prophetic Insight

Jeremiah’s prophecy speaks of God sending “fishers” and then “hunters” to gather His scattered people (Jeremiah 16:16). From a prophetic perspective, the rise of antisemitism may be understood as part of that darker “hunter” phase—mounting hostility that drives Jewish people toward their ancestral homeland. This does not excuse persecution; it exposes its evil while reminding believers that God remains faithful to His covenant and sovereign over Israel’s restoration.
