As we look at the biblical feast of Yom Kippur — the Day of Atonement, which literally means the Day of Coverings — it is a day set apart for deep reflection on what the Lord has done for us. On this feast especially, heaven and history speak together to confirm one truth: the covering has already been provided.
When Yeshua (Jesus) died on the cross two thousand years ago, the Gospels record that the veil in the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. This was no accident of wind or worn fabric — it was a divine declaration. The barrier that had separated sinful man from the Holy of Holies was removed by God Himself. Every believer whose sins are covered by His blood now has access to the very presence of the Lord, because Yeshua became both our great High Priest and the perfect, once-for-all sacrifice for sin.
What is remarkable is that this truth is confirmed not only in the Gospels, but in Jewish historical record itself. Although the Temple stood until 70 AD, the Talmud records that beginning in 30 AD — the very year most scholars place the crucifixion — God stopped accepting the Yom Kippur sacrifices as He had before (Tract Yoma 39b). For forty consecutive years following Yeshua’s sacrifice, the lot cast over the two goats fell into the left hand — the sign of rejection — every single time. The odds of that happening by chance are roughly one in a trillion.
This is the invitation of Yom Kippur for you today: you do not need to wait outside the veil, wondering whether your offering was accepted. The veil is torn. The sacrifice was provided. The work was completed two thousand years ago at the cross, and it has never needed to be repeated.
So enter His presence boldly. Lay down every fear of rejection and every doubt about whether you measure up — the lot has already fallen, and it fell on Yeshua on your behalf.
